LMS integration

Partial Credit connects to Canvas, Moodle and Brightspace through LTI 1.3, and to Google Classroom directly. Rosters come in, published grades go back, and students click straight through.

Works with

  • Canvas
  • Moodle
  • D2L Brightspace
  • Google Classroom

Without an LMS connection you can still import a roster CSV (including Brightspace exports) and download approved grades as CSV.

Setting it up

  • Registration, once per LMS. We give your LMS administrator a one-time registration link. Pasted into the LMS’s tool registration screen, it registers Partial Credit with no keys to copy by hand (LTI Dynamic Registration). Canvas then asks the administrator to turn the new key on and add the app.
  • Linking, once per course. An instructor opens Partial Credit from the LMS course and picks the Partial Credit course it belongs to. One LMS course links to one Partial Credit course.
  • Google Classroom. No administrator step: an instructor connects their Google account in the course settings and picks the class.

Rosters

  • Roles follow the LMS. Learners become students, teaching assistants become TAs and instructors (or Classroom teachers) become instructors. When someone leaves the LMS course, they lose access here too.
  • Your own entries are safe. People you added by CSV, course code or by hand are never changed by a sync, and a manual change takes a person out of sync.
  • Guarded. The last instructor is never removed, and an LMS answer with no students removes nobody.
  • Kept current. Rosters sync when the course is linked, when staff open it from the LMS (if the last sync is over ten minutes old), automatically every day, and on demand.

Grades

  • Your column, your points. Choose an existing LMS gradebook column worth the same points as the assignment. In Google Classroom, which accepts grades only for assignments the app created, Partial Credit creates that assignment for you.
  • Only approved, only published. Grades are sent when you publish and again when you ask. Unapproved work sends nothing, never a zero. Comments and private notes stay in Partial Credit.
  • LMS edits are respected. If a score was changed in the LMS gradebook, it is left alone and reported unless you choose to overwrite it. If the LMS keeps its own override, you are told.

Students

  • One click from the LMS. A student who opens Partial Credit from a linked Canvas, Moodle or Brightspace course lands on their assignment without a separate sign-in. That access covers only that course, as a student, for eight hours. Google Classroom assignments link to Partial Credit, where students sign in with their school Google account.
  • Matched by the roster. Students are recognized through the course’s own LMS roster. Instructors and TAs still sign in to Partial Credit to grade.

What is shared

  • From the LMS. For linked courses: names, school email addresses, course roles and LMS user IDs, so rosters and grades line up.
  • To the LMS. Published total scores for the column you chose. Nothing else.
  • Not yet supported. Deep Linking, per-question grades in the LMS, cross-listed sections and creating gradebook columns in Canvas, Moodle or Brightspace.
