Everything it does

Features

Partial Credit helps you grade multistep engineering homework faster without handing the grade to a machine. Here is everything it does today.

Set up an assignment

  • Rubrics of signed items. Each question gets items that add or deduct points; totals are computed in code, never by the AI. Rubrics are versioned, and a change reopens the approvals it affects.
  • Drafts from your files. Upload the problem statement and solution key, or paste text, and get a draft rubric to edit. Nothing is saved until you save it.
  • Keys per question. Attach one key for the whole assignment or a key to each question, with the pages for each question marked.
  • Student windows. Release, due and late-due times, late work on or off, and per-student extensions.

Collect submissions

  • PDFs and photos. Students upload a PDF or up to 40 phone photos, which are downscaled, contrast-adjusted and combined into one PDF in the browser.
  • Pages matched to questions. Pages are matched from question headings or your handout’s layout for free, then confirmed by the student. An optional low-resolution AI pass handles scans without headings.
  • Every attempt kept. Students can resubmit until the deadline; late work is marked; each attempt gets an emailed receipt.
  • Batch uploads for instructors. Bring in a stack of scanned submissions at once, with pages assigned the same way.

Grade with evidence

  • Suggestions you can check. Each suggested rubric item cites the page and the expression it rests on. Nothing is applied until you accept it.
  • Exact math checks. Controllability rank, characteristic polynomials, state-feedback gains and 2-D equilibrium are verified exactly in code. Results support your decision; they never change a mark.
  • Question focus. Open a question and see only the pages that answer it, with the rubric beside them.
  • AI on request. Run AI on one question or a whole assignment in the background, only after you choose to. Mismatched problem versions and unverified full credit are flagged instead of passed through.
  • No AI required. You can also copy a prepared prompt into the assistant you already use and paste the result back, or grade entirely by hand.

Approve, publish, return

  • Explicit approval. Every grade is approved by an instructor or TA; only instructors publish. Students see nothing before you publish.
  • Per-question feedback. Students see their score, the rubric items applied and your comments for each question.
  • Regrade requests. Students ask about a specific question; you answer from one queue with the full history.
  • Exports and LMS grades. Download approved grades as CSV, or send published grades to your LMS gradebook (LMS integration).

Know how well it works

  • Accuracy against your own grading. Import grades you already gave on a past assignment and compare: where the AI agrees, where it is lenient or harsh, and which rubric items it misses.
  • Review log. Approvals, reopened reviews, rubric changes and grade releases are recorded with their time.

For departments and IT

  • LMS integration. Canvas, Moodle and Brightspace through LTI 1.3 (dynamic registration, course linking, roster sync, grade return, student launches), and Google Classroom directly.
  • Sign-in. One-time email links or Google; students can also enter from the LMS. Course roles decide what each person sees.
  • Data care. Backups every 15 minutes, kept for 30 days in a separate locked store. Submissions can be permanently deleted.
  • Status. Partial Credit is early-access software. It has not yet completed an institutional security or privacy review; write to us before using it with student records.
